Studio Opportunities and Rental

Private Classes

We are happy to create a class to fit your needs(throwing classes limited to twelve people). One-on-one instruction for most topics can be scheduled at your convenience. The cost is $45 per hour. Materials included.

Create Your Own Class

If a group of at least six children or adults would like a particular class, we will put it together. The time, place, medium and theme are all flexible. We are open to everything from one-day workshops to eight week sessions, special presentations and events. We are glad to host special homeschool sessions and studio tours and are happy to help scout troops work towards their badges. Projects available could include clay, jewelry, fimo, raku, silversmithing and tile design.

 Corporate Parties

Need a cool and unique idea for an office party?  Have a corporate party at Portland Pottery!!  You and up to 13 of your employees can get out of the office and get creative.  During the party we will go over all the basics of making pottery.  A teacher will teach you and your employees how to throw on the wheel, attach handles and even trim your pots.  Then Underglazes will be used to paint them.  After the party the pots will be allowed to dry and then fired in a kiln* (allow 2 weeks for the finished product).  Your pots will be food, dishwasher and microwave safe.  Be the envy of you office building when you and your employees come in with your own hand crafted mugs.

Kiln Rental

Firing is available by the kiln load or by the piece in our electric, gas and raku kilns.  Electric kiln loads 23” wide by 27” deep are $50 Cone 05/06 and $100 Cone 6 or higher.  Space in our 100 cubic foot gas kiln is $100 per kiln quarter (glazes not included). We calculate per piece prices by the cubic inch (length x width x height). 

Bisque firing = $0.02 per cubic inch.

Glaze Firing (did not use studio glazes) = $0.03 per Cubic inch .

Glaze Firing (used studio glazes) = $0.04 per cubic inch

Tiles are $1 per tile up to 6” x 6”

Other Rules & Charges
- All pieces are a minimum of $1 (excludes bulk items like beads)
- Pieces that are glazed by staff will cost an additional $1
- Stilted pieces will cost an additional $0.50 per piece
- Pieces that need to be wiped will cost an additional $0.50 per piece.

Studio Rental

Clay & Jewelry studio rental is available for $8/hour or $150/month during the open studio hours. Renters must purchase their materials (clay/glazes/tools) and pay for all firings. Renters must clean their work space after each use.  Our studios are also available for group rental, the cost is dependent on group size and equipment needs.  Individuals interested in their own space at the studio should contact us for information.
