Portland Pottery is both a community based clay studio and a ceramic supply store.

Portland Pottery offers pottery, jewelry making, sculpture and a wide assortment of classes and workshops to artists of all ages, ability levels and backgrounds. The clay studio features a spacious area organized for wheel throwing, hand building, kiln firing, jewelry making, metal casting and studio rental. The skilled and experienced instructors and teachers of Portland Pottery are highly commended for their patience, clay knowledge and the personalized attention they give each student.

The supply store is a full service ceramic and pottery supply, stocking a wide variety of clay, glazes, kilns, wheels and other pottery, studio and ceramic equipment. Portland Pottery also has books, tools, brushes, self-hardening clays, raw materials and much, much more. Browsers are welcome.

Slab Construction & Slip Decoration

Learn to make functional pots without the use of the potter's wheel.  Join Noelle Horsfield for an information packed workshop will focusing on the creation of functional ware using slabs and templates, and the unlimited possibilities this process can offer.  Using basic slab forms constructed during the workshop, we will practice various types of slip decoration including dipping, brushing, trailing, and the creation of press molded elements from colored slip.  We will also discuss cut-out and applied decorative elements, and how these appliqués can be used in conjunction with slip decoration.  Noelle will answer any questions you may have about the make-up of different types of colored slip, and will offer recipes and tips on making your own slips suitable for various types of clay.
